There are mainly two types of doughnuts

Coming to the recipe...
Ingredients:
- Water -1/2 cup(lukewarm)
- Active dry yeast - 1.5 tsp
- All purpose flour - 3 cup
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1 tsp
- Yogurt - 1/2 cup (at room temperature)
- Egg - 1 (at room temperature)
- Oil/ Melted Butter - 1/4 cup
- Oil for frying
Method:
Take 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Add 1 tbsp sugar and 1.5 tsp yeast to it. Keep it aside for 10 minutes until it blooms.( Note: 1.Water must be lukewarm or slightly warm. If water is too hot it will kill the yeast and the yeast won't rise up.
2. Here sugar works as a catalyst, which enhances the yeast blooming reaction)
Place the dry ingredients(flour, sugar, salt) in a bowl.
Thoroughly beat the egg.
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, then pour in the yeast mixture, egg, yogurt, melted butter or oil..
Knead well for about 10 minutes.
Cover and set aside for 2 hours or until the dough get at least doubled in size.
Once the dough has doubled, place it on a floured surface and knead lightly. Divide it in half, keeping half the dough covered, so it doesn’t form a skin. With a rolling pin, roll out half of the dough to about ½″ thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter. Actually I don't have any doughnut cutter or cookie cutters. I have DIY doughnut cutter . Have a look at these DIY doughnut cutter.
Heat oil in a pan.(Add enough oil, otherwise doughnut get burn's here and there. Also, once the oil becomes hot, switch the flame to low.)
Fry the doughnuts till golden colour.
For Glaze:
Sugar glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk or water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Chocolate glaze:
- Semisweet chocolate chips - 1/2 cup
Preparation:
After the doughnut get cooled, dip top half of each doughnut into glaze. Quickly invert so that glaze is on top.
